Reiki is becoming a more widely accepted and used method of
healing & therapy. Hospitals, chiropractors, massage therapists,
and salons are now beginning to provide Reiki treatments for
patients/customers. Nurses can receive contact hours for going to
Reiki Certification classes, as it is approved by the American
Holistic Nurses Association (depending on where you receive
certification).

Treatments for Cancer Patients.

According to Denise Bernard, LCSW, Psychosocial Oncology Coordinator at
the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center,
"Reiki is a method similar to therapeutic touch or acupuncture working with the
human energy system to correct and relieve imbalances that occur during any
physical or emotional trauma. This noninvasive technique reduces or relieves
pain, reduces or relieves emotional or physical stress and works to accelerate the
bodies own natural healing capacities."
Reiki assists the body in healing in that it works holistically to treat the body
as a whole and not just focusing on one symptom. During the treatment, the
energy will be channeled where it is needed. Reiki is not intended as a
substitute for appropriate medical treatment; Reiki works to enhance or
compliment physical treatments, medication, or psychotherapy. Reiki
promotes relaxation, which allows the body to have more of its energy
directed toward healing. A more balanced energy system means your body
is able to heal faster, your immune system is strengthened to fight infection,
and your body will utilize nutrients and medication more effectively. Reiki
also promotes the release of emotions such as anger, anxiety and
depression, which block the normal energy patterns of well-being and health.
